IN THE SPOTLIGHT: An Interview with MICHELLE ANDERSON
Michelle Anderson also known as MAMU (Michelle Anderson Make-Up) has been a Professional Make-up Artist for four years after Studying Make-up Artistry along with Art and Fashion for two years prior. She loves to create fantasies with Make-up that people can visually adore and hopefully become inspired by along with making people not only look great but feel great.
Why did you become a MUA?
I have always had an interest in abstract Art in both primary and secondary school, mixed with my love of fashion and fantasy; I guess it was destined. However, I didn’t realise you could actually have a career in the Make-up Industry, I stumbled upon it by pure accident and I’m hooked ever since.
How do you get your inspiration?
I based my first ever blog post on inspiration, which I put under 5 points; Everyday Life, Listening, People, Art and the ‘Unimpossible’.
Inspiration is everywhere, Its beautiful what we see when we actually see. A lot of the time, the end result of my creation is not even close to the vision I started with and that is the beauty of it. That’s what keeps me hooked. It’s the not knowing exactly where your mind will take you. Embrace the ‘unimpossible’. It’s a wonderful thing from when you first get inspired, to working on the process, to then stand back and see where the journey has taken you.
What is your favorite 2013 trend?
Hands down it has to be big luscious berry lips, I am in awe of this look! I recently purchased M.A.C Lipliner in ‘nightmoth’ which is a must if you want to create this trend. Just remember- glossy lacquer suits full lips, while a matte lipstick provides precision and staying power for thinner ones and to finish with beautiful gold/medium bronze/soft brown tones on the eye. Perfection.
What is your top beauty tip?
Cleanse and moisturise (making sure it has at least an SPF 15) every day, Exfoliate three times a week and treat your skin to a little face mask luxury twice a week. Make-up starts with a perfect base and a beauty balm cant come close to one’s natural glow. Be kind to your skin and it will be kind to you!
What are your favourite products to work with, in your kit?
I was recently introduced to ‘Sleek’ products and purchased two eyeshadow pallets in ‘respect’ and ‘storm’- I’m obsessed. Perfect tones for creating Smokey eyes/ soft smokey/ natural. My all time favourite products would be Clarins ‘Even better’ foundation and M.A.C’s skinfinish Mineralize powder.
What was your favourite shoot to work on since you began your career?
This has always been a tough question to answer. My work is so diverse and I am always doing something completely different in different counties to different countries. To be honest, every shoot I have worked on holds equal value to me, I learn so much and meet new people all the time, a lot of whom, are very good friends to this day. I always carry out a professional job and more than what is expected of me, but I’ll always keep it light and fun, no matter what the situation.
What would we find in your personal make up bag?
Right now, in my makeup bag, I have M.A.C Skinfinish Mineralize powder, Revlon Colourstay Highlighting powder, Stila bronzing powder in shade 02, Max-Factor masterpiece max mascara, 17 lipliner in ‘Rose Blush’ and Catrice Ultimate Colour lipstick in ‘Be Natural’. In the brush section I have a Charles fox pink collection Blusher Brush, Real Techniques Buffing brush and an Estee Lauder powder brush.
