I picked up the CHANEL VITALUMIÈRE AQUA foundation on my recent trip to Ireland when I ran out of my Urban Decay one which I usually mix with my Maybelline FIT foundation. I really like the Urban Decay one which I bought in Mecca when I was in Melbourne but now that the weather is so much warmer in Australia, it was starting to look yellow on me. As you can see below in my bare face photo, I have pink undertones so yellow-ish foundation just makes me look sick – hence mixing it with Maybelline foundation.

I bought this for about 50 Eur which is $69 in House of Fraser in Dundrum.

Before I bought it, I did a bit of research into it as I wanted to make sure it was suitable for oily skin as an oily skin sufferer, which it obviously is or I wouldn’t have purchased it.

First off, the packaging is really compact – perfect for travelling or popping in your handbag, which my Urban Decay foundation really wasn’t. It also smells really good – almost like sun cream but fresh.

I really liked this foundation. I wore it for 4 weeks before reviewing so I could give an honest review rather than a first impression. Sometimes I find that a product might work for a week but then isn’t that great. This isn’t one of those products. I found it easy to build coverage but it didn’t look like I was wearing heaps of makeup.

Bare Skin

One tip I would give is shake the bottle really well before use as the foundation is almost like water. I’ve been applying it with my Zoeva 102 and buffing slightly with 104, but I feel like using the brush I’m loosing a lot of product. I’m not a fan of using my fingers during make up application but it is probably a better way to apply this foundation as it is so watery.

Longevity-wise – It’s lasted really well for me so far – I’m talking 10 hour days with primer underneath. It has SPF 15 too.

I had a quick look while I was swatching and finding my own shade at the other shades available. There were quite a few from both warm and cool tones in House of Fraser. I’m really pale and usually find it difficult to find a foundation but got lucky and matched perfectly.

Hopefully if you decide to give this one a try, you’ll be able to find your perfect shade.

  • Love that you did your review after a good amount of time. So many review I read seem to try a product for one or two days which really isn’t enough. Thank you.

I don’t generally take note of reviews but this was a great one. As someone who is typically a bit oily in warmer weather and lives in humidity (QLD, Australia) would this suit me? Or can you recommend something better? I’m finding the latest foundation I bought (which was not my usual one) literally slides off my face… 🙁 I only recently moved to QLD so not sure what to use and don’t want to spend a fortune testing products! I like good coverage!

    Great post Niamh!

Hi Dee, I have oily skin myself and suffer from acne so good coverage is a must. It can be so hard to find a decent foundation that doesn’t slide off my skin. I would definitely recommend that you get a sample of this foundation and try it. I also love Maybelline’s FIT ME Foundation.

I find that using a primer definitely helps my make up stay in place (I’m currently loving Hourglass’s Veil Mineral Primer). I also use Urban Decay’s Cooling setting spray to set my make up – the setting spray is AMAZING. My make up literally doesn’t move all day and night using these products!

Great review! I love how you show pictures both before and after applying, very helpful! 😀 thank you so much

  • It looks great on you! That’s awesome that it has an SPF 15 as well.

Awesome review and thank you for the honest trial. I don’t usually use foundation but this gives me a good place to start. I’ll be sure to check this one out! 🙂

  • I just shared your site and this post with my wife and she found it really helpful. She’s always looking for great independent reviews on these kinds of products so keep it up!
