I caught up with the super talented Illustrator Emma Kenny.
Did you always want to be an artist?
Yes! Since I was a little girl & I got my first colouring book
and crayons I was a child obsessed with all things art, nothing has changed since then!! I self taught myself in drawing so I am still learning and branching out to different avenues and styles from hand drawing to digital art I just cant get enough.
Where do you get your inspiration?
To be honest I am inspired by different walks of people in everyday life. I would see someone walking down the street and immediately want to get out the sketch pad and draw them!! But id have to say everyday peoples fashion, magazines and of course celebrities.
Tell us about your typical day.
Well at the moment I am working part time as a carer for people with intellectual and physical disabilities, this is very fullfilling and I love it!! But as soon as I finish each shift I have to be honest I race home and am on the computer drawing or sprawled on the sofa with my sketch pad and could honestly be drawing for hours without even knowing it!! Its kind of an obsession! I have a good few projects on at the moment which is very exciting!
What are your favourite products to work with?
At the moment I’m using a variety of different techniques. Im using pens/pencils to sketch and prismacolor markers for colour, while also using computer programs such as Illustrator Flash and Photoshop to finalise or in full depending on each project.
What has been the stand out moment in your career to date?
I would have to say working with the lovely Suzanne Jackson on her next book SoSueMe Book 2 which is being released mid November. I did 11 illustrations opening each chapter, it was an absolute pleasure to work with Suzanne on such an exciting project.
